Need of Rituals in spirituality

Postby Atul » 06 Dec 2010 07:37

Dear Friends,

Saadhna is a process or an attempt to reach and merge with God Himself. in different religions different methods have been explained. In Hinduism, Budhism, Sikhism, Christianity etc different methods of saadhna are explained.

In any saadhna, (process/attempt to reach and merge with God Himself) there are two important aspects.

1) Mind Training
2) Surrender to God

In all religions there are some rituals mentioned. These Rituals are just a method to train our mind and to remove unfavourable grooves from our mind and to add favourable grooves in our Mind. Also they help us surrender ourself to God.

In initial stages these rituals play very important Role. Although at a later stage a saadhka rise above these rituals in process to merge with God. This is a subject of higher stage and at this stage we need not to worry about this.

There are many stages in process to reach the God. First of all is the awareness about existence and a will to know about the God. Persons who are in this stage should start some saadhnas and some Rituals. These saadhnas include, Japam, Vratam, Homam (Fire ritual), Tarpanam, Visiting Temples and shrines, Paath (Reading granths like Bible, Guru Granth Sahib, Quran Sharif, Geeta etc).

One can choose any ritual or a mixture of Rituals depending on a person's own affinity and ability.

If you want to start any ritual/saadhna but do not know what to start and from where to start. He/she can ask for assistance and opinion here in this forum. We all will be happy to help you.

With Regards
Atul

In this effort, I will post a very simple method to do 'ekadashi vratam'. Fast on 11th day of bright half/dark half of lunar months in another thread.
Keep wanting a thing and one day you will achieve it. Stop wanting everything and one day you will achieve Him.

Mean to say for e.g. one is traveling in the bus is free and no activities to be done so can one chant the name of god at that place or not.

Please give your valuable advice in these context.

Hello kabir ji,

Sorry for replying late.

Yes, why not. One can chant/remember God any time, anywhere. No matter what you are doing, when you are doing. There is lot of time for us when we are doing nothing. We can utilise that time in training our mind.

for example when we are travelling in bus, we have nothing to do except thinking about stupid things. We can do chanting at that time. In start it is difficult to concentrate in such environment but with time it will improve.

Although for increasing efficiency, I advice to do chanting and a little meditation, as much as time you can devote - say 15 minutes or 10 minutes or 20 minutes or more - in morning and in evening - preferably both times but at least in morning. It will help in relaxing the mind and help you concentrate in day also. It is just a start, with time things will improve.
Keep wanting a thing and one day you will achieve it. Stop wanting everything and one day you will achieve Him.

Namaskar:

Rituals are very important as mentioned by Dr Atul ji. In my opinion, before starting or involved in any such activities, one should be very clear in mind that what it is for? What a person is looking for to perform such ritual? Etc Etc.

spirituality lies within al of us and if rituals can help to awaken it, then there is no harm in following them.

Rituals are considered to be of old-world and not accepted in our current times.
